Two candidates, one running for the first time, will debate live from the studios of WROC Rochester, N.Y., tonight looking to replace a woman who held the seat for more than 30 years. “Last week, we were proud to bring our viewers the New York Gubernatorial Debate, and now we’re honored to not only carry a debate, but also host it in our studio,” said Wendy Bello, WROC’s general manager.
WROC, Nexstar’s CBS affiliate in Rochester, N.Y., will host and air live the debate for the 25th Congressional District tonight at 7.
The candidates are Democrat Joseph Morelle who has served in the State Assembly since 1990, and is currently the Democrat State Assembly Majority Leader.
Republican Dr. Jim Maxwell is a first-time candidate running as a political outsider, and has served as Chief of Neurosurgery at Rochester General Hospital since 1998.
The debate is presented by The League of Women Voters of the Rochester Metropolitan Area.
Both the debate and the race mark a historic shift, as the two candidates vie to replace the late Louise Slaughter, who held the seat for more than 30 years.
In additional to airing on WROC, viewers may also watch via streaming on RochesterFirst.com or on WROC’s app.
“Last week, we were proud to bring our viewers the New York Gubernatorial Debate, and now we’re honored to not only carry a debate, but also host it in our studio,” said Wendy Bello, WROC’s general manager.
