In the hit CBS comedy, Young Sheldon, the main character is a child prodigy, academically gifted in the sciences. In a promo campaign for WBOC’s Dan Satterfield, the station’s chief meteorologist, the spots depict Satterfield as a child resembling young Sheldon.
WBOC, a dual CBS-Fox affiliate in Salisbury, Md., owned by Draper Holdings, has for years run a campaign for Dan Satterfield, the station’s chief meteorologist, Dan Said It Would Be Like This, with viewers outside remarking on the weather repeating that tag line.

In a new campaign, the station taps into true stories from Satterfield’s childhood about how he’s always loved the weather, including the time he actually called the National Weather Service.
The resemblance to the main character in the hit CBS program, Young Sheldon, is intentional.
“We’ve done this campaign for years, and the president of Draper Media, Craig Jahelka, challenged us to come up with new creative,” said Mary E. Borger, the station’s creative services director.
“We decided to tie in our meteorologist with the new CBS show Young Sheldon. Thus, we started our Young Dan campaign with the first spot about rain, which debuted in the premier episode of that show.”

In 2018, the station produced a new spot about Dan’s decision to become a meteorologist instead of an astronaut. That promo debuted in the season premiere of Young Sheldon.

And in the Super Bowl, the station aired the third spot in the campaign.
