Congratulations to Baltimore’s ABC affiliate, WMAR, for winning five national Telly Awards.
“I am thrilled to receive these awards for my department and very proud of my team,” said Alex Shaw, WMAR’s director of creative services. “I especially want to commend my senior creative services producer/editor, Mark Hernandez, whose creative editing skills really made the visuals pop.”
In an earlier story about WMAR, I wrote how the station had developed a Thursday night strategy to win the 11 p.m. news following the highly-rated ABC show Scandal. After the November 2013 ratings period, I got this note from Shaw:
“We successfully completed our eight-week strategy — from Scandal’s premiere through the last Scandal night of November sweeps. To sum up, WMAR News at 11 p.m. was the No. 1 newscast on Thursday nights in women 24-54 for EIGHT weeks in a row.”
If you’ll notice, these winning Telly Award spots are promoting special reports that air on Thursday nights at 11.
“This type of recognition is just another example of the strides WMAR is making in the Baltimore viewing area,” said Bill Hooper, the station’s VP-GM.
