Today’s May sweeps spots come from Lafayette, La., in the heart of Cajun country, about halfway between Baton Rouge and Lake Charles. Thanks to Nathan Avant, from CBS affiliate KLFY, for sharing these promos. And a big shout-out to former career creative services director now-turned KLFY GM, Kenny Lawrence.
Here’s what Nathan wrote:
“A comprehensive look at local artist George Rodrigue, most famous for his “Blue Dog” paintings, and what’s becoming of his estate after he passed away last year. Our editor hand painted a half-finished recreation of a Blue Dog for the purposes of this promo.”

“Teacher Flight is a story promo I produced with pretty much only the name to go on, and that teachers have been leaving the Lafayette Parish School System to seek work elsewhere. With no video, and no other information, I just animated the whole promo in After Effects.”

“In the Care of Death is a story about the tragic death in an Acadiana-assisted living facility which was allegedly covered up by some of the workers. We found an abandoned nursing home to shoot this promo.”

Here’s one from my days at WINK in Fort Myers, Fla. One of a series of promos during the 1990s that promoted special news reports of interviews with veterans from World War II.
Don’t forget to send me your May sweeps spots. Here’s what I need—a YouTube or Vimeo link to any examples you want to share, along with a short explanation about it if you want.
I’ll share one of mine everyday as well. Look for more examples every afternoon.
For competitive reasons, it might be best to submit only those promos that are already on your air. Make sure you get the permission of station management.
My email and phone number are at the top of the column.
