A couple weeks ago, I wrote about how KWCH, the CBS affiliate in Wichita, Kan., used Facebook to promote a couple news stories.
I was impressed by the “we-won’t-be-denied” attitude of Stephanie Huff and her staff. Tomorrow, we’ll see how KWCH continues to use Facebook in addition to its on-air to reach viewers with its May sweeps story promotion.
When creative services directors say they’re looking for writer/producers who can bring ideas and concepts to the table in spite of a lack of resources, this is what they’re talking about.
I’ll let Stephanie take it from here:
“This was a story without any video (since earthquakes aren’t exactly visible in Kansas) but some amazing statistics. So one of our graphic artists took the lead in coming up with a great visual effect that we carried through-out the promo.”

If it appears as if KWCH is monopolizing the May sweeps spots segments, it’s because it is kind enough and confident enough to share their great work. What about you? Don’t forget to send me your May sweeps spots. Here’s what I need — a YouTube or Vimeo link to any examples you want to share, along with a short explanation about it if you want. I can also do links to work on your web site.
For competitive reasons, it might be best to submit only those promos that are already on your air. Make sure you get the permission of station management.
My email and phone number are at the top of the column.
