And in Wichita, viewer complaints about a TV station there interrupting normal programming led news anchor Michael Schwanke of CBS affiliate KWCH to go on-camera to address the issue of severe weather alerts. (By the way, note how the interactive monitor becomes an effective story telling tool here).
But according to KWCH news director, Brian Gregory, the station received far more positive comments from their Facebook fans than the few complaints.
Thanks for everything that all the meteorologists do in keeping us safe. Maybe when some of these people no longer have a house standing to keep their TV in they’ll stop complaining about the interruptions. Brenda
Safety trumps regular programming for sure! Vickie
I am greatly appreciative of the coverage on Sunday night. It was nice to stay updated as to what was going on while our tornado sirens were going off. People that are angry about their shows being interrupted need to realize that even though the storm may be nowhere near them, these “local” Wichita news stations are what we rely on heavily to stay updated. Recently, I shared a story about how a grandmother was watching her favorite soap opera on TV and the local station kept interrupting it to warn about a tornado on the ground. Finally, the grandmother gathered up the grandkids she was watching and drug them into an interior hallway, seconds before the tornado destroyed the rest of the house. Later, that meteorologist went to meet the woman at her destroyed house.
