The PromaxBDA Station Summit was a success from all outward appearances and from all Paul Greeley and I heard from those in attendance. That things clicked so well is somewhat remarkable given that PromaxBDA was without a permanent leader.
When Jonathan Block-Verk stepped down as president to join Shazam late last year, the board hired industry consultant Betsy Scolnik to join as acting president for six months and get the association through its big annual conferences.
With those conferences now history, Scolnik is going back to her consulting work, despite, according to one board member, appeals to get her to stick around longer, if not permanently.
So, starting July 1, the association will be led — again temporarily — by two PromaxBDA staffers: Tripp Mahan and Stacy La Cotera. They will be co-general managers.
Meanwhile, the board is beginning in earnest to search for a fulltime president. Interested? Block-Verk was paid around $500,000. But don’t get too excited. That board member I spoke with also told me the board intends to “reset” the starting salary. In other words, it’s not going to be anywhere near $500,000.
This all sort of makes sense except for one thing. If the board knew Scolnik was out the door after the Station Summit, why didn’t it begin its job search six months ago? — Harry A. Jessell
