WBIR, the Gannett-owned NBC affiliate in Knoxville, Tenn., is partnering with GoVols247, an independent digital sports media company covering University of Tennessee football.
The partnership, the parties say, benefits the station, the website, Volunteer fans and the university.
“By marrying our brands, our viewers will benefit from our unparalleled local media shelf space, now including extensive on-air, online and social media platforms,” said WBIR Sports Director Nick Carboni.
The powerhouse pairing offers fans extensive, in-depth content and perspectives. GoVols247 is not affiliated with the university.
According to Carboni, GoVols247’s team of experts and reporters cover recruiting, as well as the day-to-day activities of the team.
“Fans can follow all angles of recruiting–who’s out there, who are they looking at, who’s coming,” said Carboni. “The reporters at GoVols247 are active on social media. WBIR can use them as experts, link to their website when they break news about the program.”
“Our partnership provides an opportunity to deliver more content to our audiences, on more platforms, with enhanced expertise and engagement opportunities,” said Christy Moreno, WBIR’s news director.
The new segments featuring Rucker and the WBIR sports team offer perspectives, predictions and interactive fan conversations about recruiting, UT Volunteer game-day coverage, post-game wrapups, and local high school sports highlights.
WBIR extends its coverage of the University of Tennessee football program. The website gets exposure to a large television audience. University football fans gets more coverage and access, and the University of Tennessee’s football program gets enhanced television coverage on a regular basis.
It’s a win-win, win-win.
