WRAL, the Raleigh, N.C., CBS affiliate owned by Capitol Broadcasting, received two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.
One of WRAL’s Murrows was in the Writing category for a story from its series, Tar Heel Traveler, written by Scott Mason.
“It’s … great to see Scott Mason honored for his writing,” says Rick Gall, WRAL news director, “which is some of the finest in television news.”
In addition, WRAL.com won a regional Murrow award in the website category.
I wondered about the process of judging a website for a Murrow.
“The unique thing about the Murrow is that it leaves little room for persuasive, custom entries,” says Jodi Leese Glusco, WRAL.com’s director of content.
“To enter the website category, a team merely provides a URL. We don’t know who will judge us or when. We appreciate the Murrow as a recognition of the consistent excellent work we do day in and day out.”
WRAL.com has consistently won accolades across the country, and was most recently featured in an article, “How One Locally Owned TV Station Does Statehouse Coverage Right,” in the Columbia Journalism Review.
“The WRAL.com and WRAL news teams work hard to deliver accurate, timely and important information around the clock,” says John Conway, WRAL’s general manager.
“We also take pride in the unique and in-depth reporting and interactive storytelling we offer on the website.”
