WTVO-WQRF’s high school quiz show, the brainchild of Kelly Lattimer, the stations’ general manager, is renewed and expanding through the 2018 school year.
WTVO is Mission Broadcasting’s ABC affiliate in Rockford, Ill., while WQRF is Nexstar’s Fox affiliate. The stations share studios.
WTVO-WQRF created the Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl to increase awareness of the importance of education in Northern Illinois and to highlight, challenge and reward the community’s best and brightest.
The Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl airs on WTVO Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. The show also airs on WQRF on Sundays at 9:30 p.m.
“From the start,” says Lattimer, “we wanted to create something that had mass and community-wide appeal. Based on positive feedback from the community and TV ratings, I feel we are accomplishing that.”

The Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl will expand this fall to 32 local high schools from nine counties.
Winning teams will earn valuable scholarships from Northern Illinois University.
“In time periods where we normally aired paid programming,” Lattimer says, “we saw marked improvement, as much as triple-digit growth. What we saw from Rentrak was stable consistent audience delivery for 21 straight weeks. The show exceeded my every expectation.”
