WGPH, Tribune’s Greensboro-Winston Salem-High Point, N.C., Fox affiliate, continues its 25-year mission to clothe, feed and help families celebrate the holidays. And this year, new milestones were reached.
In October, WGPH’s Give a Kid a Coat campaign collected more than 17,000 coats for children in need. To date, the campaign has collected and distributed more than 800,000 coats to children throughout the area.
In November, FOX8 Gifts for Kids, raised more than $115,000 in donations and five truckloads of toys, to be distributed by the Salvation Army.
In December, the FOX8/Old Dominion Triad Holiday Concert series was once again responsible for the single largest food donation in the area. All told, the three concerts generated more than 500,000 cans of food — enough to stock the shelves of the Salvation Army for six months.
To date, the three campaigns have generated more than 800,000 coats, half a million gifts, and seven million pounds of food for the community.
“Every year, we invite the community to participate in these campaigns,” said Jim Himes, WGHP’s general manager, “and every year I am astounded by the generosity of the people in this region.”
