Some major East Coast cities like New York and Washington are still digging out from the two feet of snow dumped on them last weekend.
WJLA, Sinclair’s ABC affiliate in D.C., stayed on the air for 56 hours, according to Stan Melton, WJLA creative services director, only breaking away break away from coverage for the national news, Friday night’s prime, Saturday night’s NBA game and Sunday morning’s public/political programs. Sinclair’s cable news network, Newschannel 8, stayed with continuous coverage through all 56 hours.
He sent along some links to promos his team created to “keep up with the unparalleled effort of our tremendous news team. With 24 crews in the field, we began coverage at noon on Friday (4 a.m. that day, technically), and stayed on the air for 56 hours straight, ensuring our viewers had information they needed as the storm approached and progressed, and then as the slow cleanup process began.”
