KBMT, the Tegna ABC affiliate in Beaumont, Texas, led a state-wide drive by other Tegna stations across Texas to generate $250,000 to assist victims of recent floods.
Funds were funneled to the American Red Cross who assisted in the day-long event.
SETX Flood Relief: 12 Hours of Giving centered on live television programming and social media posts on March 24.
KBMT anchors and reporters, along with spokespersons from the American Red Cross, spent the day encouraging viewers to offer up cash donations.
Adding to the effort was the full power of Tegna’s statewide reach with reports in newscasts across Texas announcing the event and encouraging donations.
“As defined in the Tegna vision statement, we are a partner in people’s lives,” said Bruce Cummings, KBMT’s general manager.
“What better way to live that principle than to once again roll up our sleeves and do our part to help folks recover from the devastation brought on from the past few weeks?”
“Without KBMT’s dedication to raise funds and community members and partners who donated online and in person, we couldn’t do the work we do: provide food, shelter and comfort to people in the most difficult of times,” said Steve Vetrano, American Red Cross regional CEO.
