April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and WAVY, the Media General NBC affiliate for the Hampton Roads, Va., area, is encouraging drivers to Steer Clear of Distracted Driving through on-air messages with Jen Lewis, WAVY’s traffic reporter.

“Distracted driving can be prevented,” said Lewis.
“Ultimately, the price could be too high for making another choice. The devices, applications and behaviors that take our eyes and attention off the road are just not worth it.”
According to Distraction.gov, at any given daylight moment across America, approximately 660,000 drivers are using cell phones or manipulating electronic devices while driving. This is a number that has held steady since 2010.
“We will use the reach of our broadcast, digital and social media to encourage everyone to Steer Clear of Distracted Driving,” said Doug Davis, WAVY’s general manager.
