On April 27, 2015, protestors demonstrating the death of Freddie Gray by the Baltimore police department turned violent.
Thousands of troops from the Maryland National Guard were called in to quell the unrest. But before it was over, more than 300 businesses were damaged, cars and buildings were looted and set on fire and hundreds were arrested.
“While the events of April 27, 2015, are still fresh in our minds, the past year has also produced much positivity in Baltimore City,” said Dan Joerres, WBAL’s general manager. WBAL is the Hearst NBC affiliate in Baltimore.
“Baltimore Rising will highlight much of the progress being made as our city moves forward.”
Baltimore Rising is a one-hour special airing tomorrow night at 7 on WBAL. The program will explore where the city’s been, how far the city has come over the past year, and examine where Baltimore is going, according to the station.
