It’s the kind of story that can grip an entire state in terror. A killer on the loose desperately running from the police.
He could be anywhere and until he’s found, everyone’s on edge.
Hearst-owned ABC affiliate KMBC Kansas City’s newscast focusing on the manhunt for alleged murderer James Horn earned the station a 2016 National Edward R. Murrow Award in the Large Market category.
Horn was wanted for kidnapping and other charges for holding a woman captive in a wooden box for months. The woman and her son were ultimately found shot to death.
Horn, the lone suspect, was eventually killed in a shootout with Missouri police at a state wildlife area.
“Receiving this award is not only a great honor for KMBC,” said Sherrie Brown, KMBC’s news director, “it’s also special recognition for the valued contributions made by each member of our news team. This award represents the standard of excellence we strive to deliver to viewers every day.”
