While some of the water in Louisiana is receding, the flooding crisis is far from over, according to a report from NBC News.
Bodies are still being discovered in flooded houses and cars, more than 40,000 homes are damaged or in ruins, 30,000 people needed to be rescued and more than 8,000 are still living in shelters.
Earlier this week, we shared a remarkable video from WAFB Baton Rouge showing a daring rescue of a woman and her dog from a submerged car. It was the most engaged post on Facebook in the world last weekend. It’s worth seeing again.

This week, other stations in the state pitched in to help the victims of the flooding by conducting telethons.
WDSU, Hearst’s NBC affiliate in New Orleans, raised more than $100,000 yesterday in its Neighbors Helping Neighbors telethon that will go directly to victims of the recent floods.
“We are a city that knows how devastating it can be to lose everything in a flood,” said Joel Vilmenay, WDSU’s general manager.
“Coming together to help our neighbors is exactly what we do in Southeast Louisiana.”

Two other NBC affiliates in the state came together to conduct a joint telethon. Nexstar’s KTAL Shreveport and KTVE Monroe (owned by Mission but operated by Nexstar) held a telethon Wednesday with the American Red Cross.
Duck Dynasty stars Willie and Korie Robertson were there to show their support. Nearly $30,000 was raised.
“This money will help those families directly,” said Michelle Davison of the Red Cross, “and they’re going to have a lot of needs in the coming days.”
