Other than who will be elected president in 2016, it may be the most contested election in United States history. And the most expensive ever for Congress.
The race to win the Pennsylvania Senate seat between Republican Incumbent Pat Toomey and Democrat Katie McGinty is costing more than any in Pennsylvania ever, $100 million, according to an article on Philly.com. The most spent for a seat in Congress was $113 million for the 2014 North Carolina Senate race.
Pennsylvanians, like yours truly, can’t get away from the acrimonious ads.
So the chance to see both candidates sit down in a live debate proved to be a ratings winner for WPVI, ABC’s Philadelphia O&O.
Moderated by WPVI anchor Jim Gardner, the hour-long debate on Tuesday night more than doubled the audience of the previous television debate, according to the station.
More than 222,000 voting age viewers tuned in, making it the highest rated program in the access hour of 7-8 p.m., 100% higher than any other program in the time period.
