TV stations often create special promos to air around the year-end holidays. Often, there’s low demand for commercial inventory during this time, so the promos tend to get a lot of play.
Last week, I wrote a column requesting stations share whatever holiday promos they have and some are coming in.
If your station has created some Happy Holiday promos, either on-air or on Facebook, you’d like to share, please let me know by calling 817-578-6324 or email me at [email protected].
WHDF, the CW affiliate in Huntsville owned by Lockwood Broadcast Group, sent us these.
Thanks to Maryann Balbo, WHDF’s general manager for sharing the spots along with this note:
“I saw your article about station holiday promos. I wanted to share ours with you with some explanation.
“I grew up in upstate New York and remember as a child loving the promos our hometown station, WWNY, would produce. It was old-school, walking around with a camera catching people off guard waving to the camera with a Santa hat. It featured every department and sometimes even family members.
“As the general manager of a stand-alone CW affiliate in Huntsville, Ala., I wanted to do something creative.
“I took over the station 18 months ago and found the station had a local identity challenge. So, to go along with all our current successful community outreach, I decided to take a new spin on those holiday promos I grew up watching.
“Taking a twist on featuring just our staff, I wanted to feature the community we serve. It localizes our station to our viewing community as well as our partners. It truly is a win/win.”
