WCIU, known as The U, an independent station in Chicago owned by Weigel Broadcasting, kicks off New Year’s Eve with Pat McGann’s Pre-Taped New Year’s Special on Sunday night, Dec. 31, at 9.
Local comedian Pat McGann hosts the one-hour comedy special that features a slate of Chicago comedians and was taped in front of a studio audience.
A staple of Chicago’s stand-up comedy scene, McGann has made multiple appearances on latenight network TV, most recently The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
McGann also created and hosted the Emmy-nominated TV show The Chicago Stand Up Project and has been featured in The U’s Chicago’s One Night Stand-Up.
“It’s very Chicago,” said McGann, “and some very funny Chicago comics helped me make it, and are in it. I hope people enjoy it.”
Steve Bailey, WCIU’s programming and creative head, said: “We’re flipping the script when it comes to New Year’s with Chicago’s Pat McGann at the wheel. Pat’s brash, he’s witty, he’s real and, of course, he’s funny.”
