Raycom’s WAVE, Louisville’s NBC affiliate, has promoted Kris Baete to director of marketing and audience development.
Baete had been the station’s on-air promotion manager, he joined WAVE six years ago, starting as the night-side topical producer.
Baete says his management style will focus on respecting the team.
“We are all in this together. The good thing about this team is we are all equals.”
Baete says he’ll be less hands-on now in terms of producing marketing creative.
“The biggest change is that I’ll experience others creating and innovating and really supporting them and help motivate and be part of the team and watch everybody work together.”
One of Baete’s first goals was to hire someone to replace him in the department.
“I hired a gentleman by the name of Roman Lane, an accomplished music video director. I made sure before I hired him that everybody on the team had a chance to see who he was, make sure he was going to be good fit. And it’s been fantastic.”
Baete’s advice for others who want to move up into marketing management in local TV:
“Be a great person to be around and work with. Have passion in your work, maintain drive and urgency.”
NOTE: Baete sent along these spots his team has been working on, fresh this month.
