Lauren Day, a reporter for KMIR, used a cell phone and Facebook to report on conditions in the mountains where a massive wildfire forced the evacuation of more than 3,200 people. “This is local TV at its best,” said Andrew Johnston, KMIR’s creative services director.

Day spent a day on the mountains in the San Bernardino National Forest where the Cranston Fire has burned 4,700 acres, destroying five homes and forcing the evacuation of more than 3,200.
Day showed viewers the destroyed homes, giving viewers the ability to get a first-hand look at where exactly the homes were.
Many viewers on the live feed commented that they lived in the neighborhood and asked if she could check out their properties.
Day checked on their homes, offering some good news to many who were able to see their homes for the first time since being evacuated on Wednesday.
“This is local TV at its best,” said Andrew Johnston, KMIR’s creative services director.
Here are just a few of the many comments on KMIR’s Facebook page about Day’s coverage.
