In September last year, Hurricane Irma hit Jacksonville with record flooding.

“The storm surge was nothing like we’d seen before,” said Bob Ellis, WJXT’s general manager.

“We watched as water surrounded the station, knowing our reporters and photographers were out there relentlessly covering viewers’ resiliency.”

WJXT is an independent station in Jacksonville owned by Graham Media.

Tonight at 8, WJXT will air an hour-long documentary, High Rise – The Flood and Fury of Hurricane Irma, recounting the events including stories from those who experienced the storm, and never-before-seen footage.

With $50 billion dollars in damage, Irma was coined one of the costliest and most damaging. It made landfall seven times, four of which were as a Category 5 hurricane.
