Trading in cowboys boots for ski boots, Blair Nelson is making the move from Tegna’s WFAA in Dallas to Denver to head up marketing for KUSA. Prior to joining WFAA, she served in senior account management roles at several advertising agencies, leading campaigns for Chevrolet and MillerCoors.
KUSA, Denver’s NBC affiliate owned by Tegna, has named Blair Nelson as its director of marketing and brand.
Nelson, formerly at Tegna-owned ABC affiliate WFAA in Dallas where she oversaw the creative marketing department, is an Emmy-award winning brand manager.
In her role, Nelson will collaborate with the station’s leadership team on integrated marketing planning and strategy, fostering nontraditional partnerships in the Denver market, creating multiplatform campaigns to support the station’s brand and connecting the KUSA audience with its TV, digital and social content.
“Blair is an energetic leader and creative brand builder,” said Steve Carter, KUSA’s general manager.
“She’s a transformational thinker who will help us position and strengthen the 9NEWS brand and influence our strategic thinking moving forward.”
Nelson is listed as brand manager for these two spots which won a Lone Star Emmy Award in 2017.
Prior to joining WFAA, she held senior account management roles at several advertising agencies, leading campaigns for Chevrolet and MillerCoors.
Nelson’s accolades include Edward R. Murrow Award-winning newscast contributor, ABC Social Media Advisory Board, Tegna’s Rising Star program, an Addy Award Gold for local television campaign and a Lone Star Chapter Emmy for best promotion campaign.
Nelson received her BA in public relations from Drake University, where she competed as an NCAA Division 1 student-athlete. She also earned a certificate of leadership from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
Nelson starts Oct. 15.
