Iowa’s KCCI morning news and a special episode of their weekly public affairs show earned the station regional Emmy Awards. “We are proud and humbled to earn the trust of our viewers on these stories that continue to impact law enforcement and our culture,” said Brian Sather.
KCCI, Hearst’s CBS affiliate in Des Moines, Iowa, earned two Emmy Awards for markets 1-70 from the Upper Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
The Upper Midwest Chapter represents stations in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, parts of Nebraska and Wisconsin.
The station won an Emmy for best morning newscast for the station’s coverage marking one year since two local police officers were ambushed and shot to death.
KCCI also earned an Emmy for best public/current/community affairs program for KCCI Close Up: #MeToo Movement.
The special episode of KCCI’s weekly public affairs program featured a roundtable discussion featuring Central Iowans reflecting on how the #MeToo movement has affected their personal and work lives.
“We are honored to be recognized for reporting on two issues that have had an incredible impact on Central Iowa,” said Dave Busiek, KCCI’s news director.
