WTVM Birmingham, Ala., held a telethon to collect funds for Hurricane Michael relief, and Wells Fargo donated $500,000. “We remain committed to helping during this time of recovery and will continue to support communities across Alabama during this tremendous time of need,” said Leigh Collier, Wells Fargo Central Alabama Region Bank president.
WTVM and the Central Alabama Chapter of the American Red Cross teamed up for Hurricane Michael recovery efforts by hosting a telethon on Friday, Oct. 12. WTVM is the Hearst NBC affiliate in Birmingham.
While more than $21,610 was raised to help victims, that doesn’t count a very special $500,000 national donation from Well Fargo.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those being impacted by Hurricane Michael,” said Wells Fargo Central Alabama Region Bank President Leigh Collier.
“We remain committed to helping during this time of recovery and will continue to support communities across Alabama during this tremendous time of need.”
“The support for our neighbors to the south and east was outstanding,” said Hank Price, WVTM’s general manager.
“We truly want to thank all our viewers and corporate partners for their generosity.”
WVTM did live cut-ins throughout the day and had coverage during newscasts requesting donations.
