WAPT, Hearst’s ABC affiliate in Jackson, Mississippi continued its annual Turkey Drive tradition with record numbers this year. “Mississippi has long been known as one of the most generous states in the nation,” said Mike Neelly, WAPT’s general manager. “When our neighbors need help, we step up to the challenge, and that’s exactly what we saw with this year’s Turkey Drive.”
WAPT, Hearst’s ABC affiliate in Jackson, Miss., collected 2,321 whole turkeys and more than $2,260 in cash donations on Thursday, Nov. 15, during its annual Turkey Drive.
The donations surpassed the previous all-time station record set last year.
Throughout the day, total donations were tallied and displayed live via special crawl on WAPT and its MeTV subchannel, and a special schedule of live coverage ran throughout the day between normal programming, updating viewers on the Turkey Drive’s progress.
