Segments by The Weather Channel using a technique called immersive mixed reality provide viewers with an unmatched television experience to improve the public’s understanding of weather phenomena and its impacts on their daily lives.
Every winter, we see news stories and Facebook posts of people and animals being rescued from frozen lakes and ponds. Some stories end sadly.
The Weather Channel, using a technique called immersive mixed reality (IMR), recently took viewers above and below the ice to provide a perspective few will ever experience.
The segment is another in a series of mixed reality segments forged by The Weather Channel, in partnership with The Future Group, to provide viewers with an unmatched television experience to improve the public’s understanding of weather phenomena and its impacts on their daily lives.
The Weather Channel says by 2020 it plans to use IMR technology in 80% of its programming.
