“WAAY had a busy day on Wednesday supporting Together for Alabama,” said Suzanne Sullivan, the Huntsville, Ala., station’s creative services director. “We did not raise funds for one particular organization, instead we gathered multiple ways to donate money, time, and supplies and put it all together in one place on our website. So many folks have been asking how they can help.”
WAAY, the ABC affiliate in Huntsville, Ala., owned by Heartland Media, devoted its resources all day last Wednesday to informing viewers how they can the tornado victims in Lee County where a deadly E-4 tornado touched down.
Suzanne Sullivan, the station’s creative services director, sent me this note about what the station did.
WAAY had a busy day on Wednesday supporting Together for Alabama.
We supported the effort with a website takeover day and all our promotion pushed back to our website.
We had an extensive digital campaign that included our website and social media as well as app pushes and ad messenger.
Our on-air promotion included a promo from our morning anchor, a push to ways to help in every newscast, and a continuous message in our ticker.
We did not raise funds for one particular organization, instead we gathered multiple ways to donate money, time, and supplies and put it all together in one place on our website, along with multiple stories about local organizations collecting donations.
It was a great way to get the message out, so many folks have been asking how they can help.
