WPTV’s Protecting Paradise specials focused on multiple environmental issues, ranging from beach bacteria and turtles to aquaculture, which aired during WPTV’s morning news and its 5 o’clock news every day during Earth Week. “WPTV’s significant commitment to environmental issues is being made with the consultation of who matters most to us, our viewers and our community,” said Lloyd Bucher, WPTV’s general manager.
The West Palm Beach area of South Florida is described by many as paradise. You can count this reporter among them.
And if you live there or just visit, you’d want to see that paradise protected.
So WPTV, the Scripps-owned NBC affiliate there, did special reports, Protecting Paradise, and events during Earth Week, (Earth Week usually runs from April 16 to Earth Day, April 22) to highlight its long-term commitment to protect South Florida’s beaches, waterways and wetlands.
The focus of WPTV’s Protecting Paradise is to preserve and protect the fragile ecosystems that exist there. Much of South Florida’s growth and tourism is due to the climate. The “SoFla” lifestyle centers on water and the outdoors. WPTV’s Protecting Paradise goal is to bring awareness and focus intently on the condition, the quality and the future health of the environment.

To culminate the week, WPTV, along with Keep Palm Beach Beautiful, supported and encouraged viewers to sign up to volunteer for the April 27 Great American Cleanup.
“WPTV’s significant commitment to environmental issues is being made with the consultation of who matters most to us, our viewers and our community,” said Lloyd Bucher, WPTV’s general manager. “Residents of South Florida, both new and old, are particularly impacted by our environment and WPTV will continue to serve our residents with extensive coverage on the topic for the foreseeable future. This weekend’s event was just the start of many initiatives we will get behind in order to make our community safer and cleaner.”
WPTV’s Protecting Paradise launched in 2018. Since then, WPTV has produced multiple related stories every week. These reports air on WPTV as well as the station’s website and social media pages.
