“Our hearts are broken,” said Carol McCormack, the United Way of South Hampton Roads president.
“These are our friends and our neighbors. We are honored that the City of Virginia Beach entrusted us with the development of this fund to assist the victims. The city is a long-time partner and giving back is deep within their culture, so it’s our responsibility now to come together as a community to support them. And we thank TowneBank for stepping up to lead the way.”
TowneBank will donate $500,000 to the fund. The money will be given directly to United Way of South Hampton Roads.
Anyone who would like to make a donation to the fund can do so by texting VABEACH to 41444 or by visiting www.unitedwayshr.org/vabeach.
