The Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl started 5 years ago on WTVO/WQRF. Since then, more than 1500 students representing more than 50 high school have participated. “Aside from local news, you don’t see a lot of TV stations producing 40 straight weeks of a locally-originated show like this,” said Kelly Lattimer, WTVO/WQRF’s general manager.
Illinois Governor, J.B. Pritzker, along with Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger, and Congresswoman Cheri Bustos went on the record to praise the Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl, a locally produced, half-hour game show that airs exclusively on WTVO and WQRF, Nexstar’s ABC and Fox affiliates, respectively, in Rockford.

“Aside from local news, you don’t see a lot of TV stations producing 40 straight weeks of a locally originated show like this,” said Kelly Lattimer, WTVO-WQRF general manager.
“And most importantly, with no signs of waning interest from viewers, sponsors or participants. Well before we concluded season 5, all 32 teams had renewed, and without regard to the taping schedule. That tells us they will ‘clear their decks’ so they can participate. That’s how important this show is to them and to our community.”
In addition to the taped comments, the stations were honored with the live reading of a statewide proclamation in honor of their efforts.
Here’s a fun promo for its last final show.
NOTE: Market Share has extensively covered WTVO-WQRF’s Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl since its inception.
It’s a great example of inventive, successful, local programming that is a win for the station, its sponsors and the viewers. Personally, as a former teacher, I applaud any efforts by TV stations to partner with schools in their coverage areas.
