Chicago, the Windy City, on the shores of Lake Michigan, has dozens of different neighborhoods, each with its own unique set of residents and amenities.
But whether you’re considering luxurious urban living in the Loop or a more family-oriented area like Ravenswood, chances are you’ll find one that suits you. Generally speaking, the Loop and the surrounding area have the most expensive housing options, and as you move away, prices decrease. The Loop area is home to many of the key landmarks of Chicago, including the Sears Tower, Millennium Park, “The Bean” and Navy Pier. The Loop is also a major business center, with almost half of the city’s office space existing in the area.
The North Side of Chicago has the densest residential population, along with spacious parkland like Lincoln Park. It’s also the location of Wrigley Field, where the Chicago Cubs play. Chicago’s West Side is the most multicultural part of the city, with neighborhoods varying from Polish and immigrant communities to grungy hipster havens. The South Side of Chicago is well-known for being the home of the Chicago White Sox and the University of Chicago.
The median cost to buy a new home in Chicago is $309,000, and the median rent is about $1,700.

Nexstar’s headquarters are in Irving, Texas, actually in Las Colinas, a little enclave surrounding Lake Carolyn with boutique shops and restaurants.
Close to the airport, and just a short drive from Dallas proper, there are no shortages of nice neighborhoods in the vicinity. There’s Colleyville, Grapevine, Keller and Southlake to the north past the airport and closer to Ft. Worth. Dallas has lots of neighborhoods to consider like Highland Park and further out are Richardson and Addison. There are roads everywhere, so getting around is easy.
The Dallas-Ft. Worth area is ranked 21st as best place to live by U.S. World & News Report, and 9th as best places to retire. Offering both big-city excitement and quiet, suburban living, the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area offers an interesting mix of Texas pride and cosmopolitan offerings. The cowboy life still exists in Fort Worth, while Dallasites love the trendy local bars and numerous retail shops. And no matter which part of the metroplex they call home, sports fans rally together behind their professional sports teams.
The small-town feel of Friday night football games and backyard parties exists in the suburbs of Dallas-Fort Worth. In those areas, residents can bump into their friends at the local Tex-Mex restaurant, children ride their bikes and joggers hit the pavement for evening runs. But even in DFW proper, many people exude that Texas friendliness with a wave or a “hello” to strangers.
Those who live in Dallas and Fort Worth tend to be young professionals, while the surrounding suburbs are largely filled with young families who want both a close-knit community and easy access to the cities. Personally, I loved living in Texas with its great weather, great people, very affordable housing and lots to do.
