WRAL Partners With Fact Check Site PolitiFact

The new segment will make fact-checks available to more people in North Carolina than ever before. “This new partnership will help North Carolinians decipher truth from fiction in a non-partisan format,” said Ashley Talley, WRAL’s enterprise executive producer.

WRAL and WRAZ, Capitol Broadcasting’s NBC and Fox affiliates in Raleigh, N.C., have partnered with PolitiFact, the Pulitzer Prize-winning fact-checking site for digital and on-air news. The new segment is the first regular PolitiFact TV segment in North Carolina.

PolitiFact is a nonprofit project operated by the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla., with offices there and in Washington.

The segment will make fact-checks available to more people in North Carolina than ever before.

Ashley Talley

“This new partnership will help North Carolinians decipher truth from fiction in a nonpartisan format,” said Ashley Talley, WRAL’s enterprise executive producer.

“Through the WRAL and PolitiFact NC relationship, people across the state will have access to this essential information online, on-air and on social media.”

Aaron Sharockman

“We’re thrilled that the Truth-O-Meter is taking its talents to television and, specifically, to such a powerhouse station in WRAL,” said Aaron Sharockman, PolitiFacts executive director.

“North Carolina politicians need to be put on watch: If they mislead voters, WRAL will call them out. PolitiFact is public watchdog reporting at its best, and North Carolina voters are better served with WRAL in the game.”

Here are some of the stories from the project since it launched on Nov. 18.
