The holiday season will be a bit brighter for those in need, thanks in part to two WPTV community initiatives.
WPTV, the Scripps NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Fla., held both a food drive and a toy drive for those in need this holiday season.
In November, WPTV held its 35th annual Bill Brooks’ Food for Families Food Drive. The successful six-week-long event included four all-day drives and multiple collection sites throughout The Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast. All food collected was distributed to families in need in Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties.
In addition to on-air promos and newscast mentions, WPTV created multiple social posts to increase engagement and awareness. This year’s total was 177,160 pounds of food.

On Dec. 13, WPTV conducted an all-day toy drive, with the toys be distributed by the United Way of Palm Beach County to local children in need.

“We are so proud of the outpouring of support from the community during the 35th annual WPTV Food for Families Food Drive and 4th Annual Toy Drive,” says Lloyd Bucher, WPTV’s general manager.
“More than 177,000 pounds of food and more than 3,000 toys have been donated by members of our community and distributed to help those in need. These initiatives are incredibly important to WPTV and our community, and the giving nature of our viewers makes a tremendous difference.”
