WSMV Nashville Raises $400,000 For Tornado Relief

WSMV aired live cut-ins to help raise funding and educate viewers on what they can do to help the Red Cross and their neighbors rebuild the areas affected by the tornadoes that tore through Nashville and Putman County in the early hours of Tuesday morning, March 3.

WSMV, Meredith’s NBC affiliate in Nashville, in partnership with the American Red Cross and CMT, raised nearly $400,000 during a Rebuilding Tennessee Telethon on Thursday, March 5.

News4 is partnering with CMT and the American Red Cross for a telethon to raise funds to benefit victims of the deadly tornadoes, today until 7pm. WSMV aired live cut-ins from 4 to 7:30 p.m. to help raise funding and educate viewers on what they can do to help the Red Cross and their neighbors rebuild the areas affected by the tornadoes that tore through Nashville and Putman County in the early hours of Tuesday morning, March 3.

All the proceeds will stay in Middle Tennessee.

Music artists and producers who shared their stories and donated their time and money, included Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood from Lady Antebellum, Kid Rock, Gavin DeGraw, Scott Borchetta, Cassadee Pope and many more.

“We will be providing relief and long-term recovery for quite a while and could not do it without the support of our generous community partners and donors,” added Brenda Black, senior director of philanthropy for The American Red Cross Southeast and Caribbean Division.


Illinois Public Media seeks a Programming and Content Distribution Director at WILL AM-FM-TV public broadcasting stations licensed to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Programming and Content Distribution Director (PD) is responsible for screening, selecting, acquiring, and scheduling programs for WILL across multiple channels and platforms. The PD works closely with Illinois Public Media’s Programming, Operations, Digital, Marketing, and Content Creation teams and manages the Traffic team to ensure seamless program and interstitial scheduling, continuity, and distribution of content.
