WAPT Jackson Expands Late Newscast To An Hour

“Our mission is to inform and protect the Jackson community,” said Mike Neelly, WAPT’s general manager. “Expanding our newscasts is just one more way we’re able to do this. This community service will help us in our commitment to delivering facts over fear on all our platforms.”

WAPT, Hearst’s ABC affiliate in Jackson, Miss. (DMA 95), is expanding its 10 p.m. newscast to an hour with a focus on the spread of COVID-19 in Central Mississippi.

The change currently extends through the week of March 16 through March 22 and may be extended as events warrant.

The expanded newscasts will include updates from state officials, the Mississippi Department of Health, city government, school officials and other information crucial to Jackson viewers during the Coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to the extended newscasts, ABC will also adjust its programming schedule. Beginning Tuesday, March 17, Nightline will now follow 16 WAPT News at 10, with Jimmy Kimmel Live airing immediately after. This change is currently scheduled through Friday, March 20.

“Our mission is to inform and protect the Jackson community,” said Mike Neelly, WAPT’s general manager.

“Expanding our newscasts is just one more way we’re able to do this. This community service will help us in our commitment to delivering facts over fear on all our platforms.”
