WXIX, Gray’s Fox affiliate in Cincinnati (DMA 37), started a virtual food drive on April 10 with Kroger and the Freestore Foodbank to help area families struggling to put food on the table because of the effect COVID-19 pandemic has on their lives and livelihood.

The Heart of Cincinnati Virtual Food Drive runs until May 10.

“Many of our friends and neighbors have lost their jobs and are having a hard time making ends meet,” said Debbie Bush, WXIX’s general manager.

“For them, and others who need help, we want to make sure there is a place to get the food their families need. We also want to make sure there is a safe and easy way for our viewers to donate. That’s why we decided to forgo a traditional food drive and create the Heart of Cincinnati Virtual Food Drive.”

“During any crisis, our food banks are often the first places our neighbors in need go for comfort and support,” said Erin Rolfes, Cincinnati-Dayton Kroger’s corporate affairs manager.

“We’re proud of our partners who are on the front lines feeding people every day and, especially, today. Thank you for supporting their work.”

NOTE: David Taylor, the CEO of Cincinnati-based Procter and Gamble, and his wife Marsha, announced they are donating $50,000 to be used as matching funds for the Heart of Cincinnati Virtual Food Drive. So now, every dollar donated by viewers will be matched up to $50,ooo.
