WXII, Hearst’s NBC affiliate in Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point, N.C. (DMA 38), is debuting a new studio and set during today’s noon newscast. The set was designed by Devlin Design Group.

Free Lance Staging, owned by Caleb Kennedy and located in Thomasville, N.C., was among the companies hired to bring the design to completion.

“All local businesses have been challenged in this environment,” said Kennedy. “When businesses work to keep their projects local, it’s not only a better product, it’s backed by local pride and adds a sense of community ownership. We appreciate WXII’s decision to keep their dollars local.”

The new set features visual inspiration from the Piedmont Triad Region with added technology designed to enhance the viewer experience

Michelle Butt

“The construction phase of this project began just as the novel coronavirus was identified in North Carolina,” said Michelle Butt, WXII general manager.

“With so many regional businesses negatively impacted, we were proud to support our area’s legacy of craftsmanship by working with the talented local builders in the construction of our new set.”

Diane Fiolek

“It was a logical choice to use nature as the inspiration,” said Diane “DiFi” Fiolek, Devlin Design Group creative director.

Her design partner, Kartik Dakshinamoorthy, said, “it was truly a pleasure to work with the talented craftsmen and women of the Piedmont Triad.”
