WCVB devoted part of its broadcast day to create awareness and raise funds for a non-profit, Home Base, that helps at-risk veterans and military families.
WCVB, Hearst’s ABC affiliate in Boston, partnered with Home Base on the second annual day-long televent Helping Veterans Heal.
Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program, is the only private sector clinic in New England, and the largest private sector clinic in America with the sole focus of helping at-risk veterans and military families regain the lives they once had — all at no cost.
Helping Veterans Heal, the televent, began during WCVB’s morning newscast at 6, and continued throughout the day with live cut-ins and stories.
The special initiative is designed to increase awareness and generate funds to support Home Base’s clinical programs for the treatment of the invisible wounds for veterans of all eras, service members and military families.
Helping Veterans Heal was supported by a live phone bank, online donations and text-to-give in an effort to raise critical funds for Home Base. More than $420,000 and counting was raised for Home Base.
Viewers are encouraged to visit homebase.org/televent to donate.
