You could make the argument that this year, 2020, is not one to be remembered fondly. Yet for all the pain we’ve experienced in 2020, WAVE, Gray’s NBC affiliate in Louisville, found some positives in their year-ender to give us hope going into 2021.
It’s been a tradition for TV stations to create year-ender promos that typically look back over the biggest stories of the past 12 months and highlight their team’s coverage of them.
You could make the argument that this year, 2020, is not one to be remembered fondly, but one best forgotten, left in the dust of our rear-view mirror as we roar into 2021.
Yet for all the pain we’ve experienced in 2020, WAVE, Gray’s NBC affiliate in Louisville, Ky., found some positives in its year-ender to give us hope going into 2021.

Thanks to Kris Baete, WAVE’s marketing director, for sharing and giving us his rationale for the station’s uplifting year-ender.
“We wanted to produce a spot that acknowledged the heaviness that 2020 was on so many across our country and the world. So many families lost loved ones, businesses, and livelihoods. It’s also important to acknowledge that 2020 was a year of growth, understanding, self-reflection and progress for millions. And we’re just scratching the surface of the work that needs to be done within our hearts and in our communities.”
“We have seen historic movements formed, health care innovation previously unheard of, and acts of kindness that can only occur in the darkest of times. We’re looking ahead to 2021, to let our viewers know that while there is pain in where we have all been, there is hope in where we are all going. And we’re going there together.”
