WCTI, Sinclair’s ABC affiliate in New Bern, N.C., continued its 30-year tradition of the Share Your Christmas Food Drive to help food insecure families in the eastern part of the state.
WCTI partnered with area Piggly Wiggly markets to take the Share Your Christmas Food Drive on the road during the week of Dec. 6,
Over five days in five cities, the public was invited to donate nonperishable food and funds to support local families, children, seniors and veterans experiencing food-insecurity.
Donors, sponsors and Piggly Wiggly customers contributed food and funds that provided 209,762 meals for households in eastern North Carolina struggling to put food on their tables.

“We topped last year’s numbers which allowed us to donate more than 200,000 meals to help solve hunger in ENC,” says Allison Aldridge, WCTI’s GM. “A big thank you to our partners Piggly Wiggly and Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina for making this a continued success.”
The donated food and financial contributions from the Share Your Christmas Food Drive went to the nonprofit Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina to support the food distribution and meal programs of the Food Bank’s Greenville and New Bern branches’ service areas.

“The Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC is so grateful to News Channel 12 and donors and Piggly Wiggly customers that participated in the News Channel 12 Share Your Christmas Food and Fund Drive,” says George Young, Eastern Regional Director for the Food Bank. “Many local families are struggling to put meals on their tables each day and having over 209,000 meals provided from Share Your Christmas will help make it possible to make sure our neighbors in need can receive on-going support.”
