The donated snacks and drink will fill USO Snack Packs for deploying troops and Rack Pack for single Marines and sailors when they arrive at Camp Lejeune. “The WCTI-TV community is the military community,” says Allison Aldridge, WCTI’s GM.
WCTI, Sinclair’s ABC affiliate in New Bern, N.C., joined forces with USO North Carolina to collect and fill nearly 2,000 snack packs for military members on the move.
“Often it is the little gestures that can have the biggest impact,” says Chris Swope, WCTI’s news director. “For service members traveling around the country or around the world, a bag of snacks and a drink can make the trip a lot easier.”
The idea for the Snack Pack Drive came from a conversation Swope had with Megan Boggs, operations supervisor for USO North Carolina. “The organization needs items to fill bags and we have the experience to help,” Swope says.

“Our viewing area covers several military bases, including Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Stations Cherry Point and New River. When we see a need arise or any way to help our local troops, the News Channel 12 team jumps into action. A big thank you to our partners at Piggly Wiggly, Navy Federal Credit Union and Don Williamson Nissan for making the Snack Pack Drive a success.”
