The path to local TV news ratings dominance often begins in the weather department. Research says the local weather forecast is still the driving factor for viewers when choosing which TV newscast to watch.
So TV stations look for ways to market their weather coverage that gives them an edge. That edge can be having the most experienced meteorologist in town, or maybe having the most meteorologists on staff.
Maybe it’s longevity in the market by your chief or your team. Sometimes, it could be your technology is superior. Or it could be how your station performed in a severe weather event. It can be the personalities of your meteorologists. And of course, there’s accuracy. Whatever your station’s strengths are in terms of weather one-up-man ship, the trick is making the promotion resonate in the viewers’ minds enough to watch.
Here are some local TV weather promos that are nominated by Promax to possibly win gold at the upcoming Station Summit in Las Vegas on June 23.
Promax has generously given Market Share access to all the nominations.
So leading up the Station Summit during the week of June 20, Market Share will be showing examples of the promos nominated in the most popular categories.
