In 2022, the station played a role in collecting $7,801,549 in contributions to Baltimore-area nonprofit organizations.
The station’s largest fundraising event was the annual Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge campaign benefitting Special Olympics Maryland.
With the support of WBAL, the Polar Bear Plunge raised $3,452,581 during its 2022 campaign.
“WBAL-TV primarily supports these non-profits through public service announcements featuring 11 News anchors,” says Dan Joerres, WBAL’s GM. “These messages encourage viewers to support the outstanding work of the various agencies by showcasing their contributions to the community. It’s just one of the ways WBAL-TV 11 is working to make a better Baltimore.”
