An investigation by WTVF, Scripps’ CBS affiliate in Nashville, made it all the way to national prominence when Jimmy Kimmel used the story to poke fun at Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee.
WTVF’s investigation revealed that the freshman Republican listed some falsehoods about his college experience.
According to WTVF, Ogles, a self-proclaimed economist, took only one community college economics course, which he barely passed, and did not major in international relations, as claimed.
Phil Williams, WTVF’s chief investigative reporter, went to Ogles’ hometown in search of answers, checking out the Columbia address listed on his website as his new congressional office.
When Ogles ignored calls and texts from Williams to comment on the issue, Williams tracked Ogles down at the Nashville airport.
It was this portion of the investigation where Williams is seen walking with the congressman asking about his college degree claims that Kimmel seized on to ridicule Ogles.
