The 20th annual KGW Great Food Drive is on throughout the month of March. KGW is Tegna’s NBC affiliate in Portland, Ore.
The food drive is a major public service campaign that addresses hunger issues in communities throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Last year one in eight Oregonians sought food assistance and Oregon Food Bank distributed 72 million meals. The goal this year is to collect enough donations to provide more than 1.2 million meals.
Throughout March, KGW, Rivermark Credit Union, Safeway and local Toyota Dealers, along with other corporate partners, will help supply the Oregon Food Bank Network with essential food to be distributed to its network of 21 regional food banks and 1,400 food assistance sites across Oregon and Clark County, Washington.
“The KGW Great Food Drive is so important in our community because the need is always there,” says Steve Carter, KGW’s GM. “Food insecurity affects so many families who are working but still struggling to feed their children. Every dollar helps put food on the table.”
