The Alabama Broadcasters Association celebrated its 17th annual “Alabama’s Best in Broadcasting”, or ABBY Awards, Saturday, March 18, in Birmingham, Ala.

More than 300 radio and television broadcasters represented stations from across the state as colleagues and competitors collected statues.

Judging took place in February with 12 radio and television professionals reviewing entries in person over two days at an out-of-state location.

These panelist’s reviews resulted in the following ABBY Awards and Judges’ Awards of Merit presented to local TV stations.

WAAY, Allen Media’s ABC affiliate in Huntsville, was again named Alabama’s Television Station of the Year for overall excellence in journalism, programming and community service.

WAAY is the first television station to receive this award in back-to-back years.

Mike Wright

“To be recognized with the ABA’s highest honor for the second year in a row is very humbling,” says Mike Wright, WAAY’s GM. “While our work is ongoing, this award is a testament to our dedication to excellence by an incredible group of journalists. We will continue strengthening our commitment to North Alabama and work hard every day to keep families safe and to be a voice for those who have no voice.”

Stephen Gallien

“We are so honored to be recognized in this way,” says Stephen Gallien, WAAY’s news director. “We are fully focused on the responsibilities placed on us as broadcasters; those expectations can be fulfilled only through our daily commitment to provide thorough, trustworthy, and engaging content that is most important to our viewers.”
