Jacksonville’s media organizations are joining forces to host Vote 2023: A Mayoral Candidate Forum tonight, May 3, at 7 p.m.
WJXT, Graham Media’s independent; First Coast News (Tegna’s WTLV [NBC] and WJXX [ABC] duopoly; Public Media’s WJCT-FM; and the Florida Times-Union, Gannett’s daily newspaper, are joining Jacksonville University Public Policy Institute (JUPPI) to host the event.
“The voting public deserves to see and hear prospective mayors address those issues and share how they plan to lead a community of nearly one million people.” says Terri Cope Walton, WJXT’s general manager. “I am very grateful to First Coast News, WJCT, and the Florida Times-Union for making this forum a multi-media event that can be seen and heard across various news platforms.”
Both candidates, Donna Deegan (D) and Daniel Davis (R) have been invited to participate in the forum. At this time, candidate Donna Deegan has confirmed her attendance.
The forum will be aired live on WJXT, First Coast News and WJCT-FM from 7 to 8 p.m.
WJXT anchor Kent Justice, who hosts This Week in Jacksonville, will moderate the forum.
Panelists include anchor Anthony Austin of First Coast News, WJCT-FM First Coast Connect host Melissa Ross, and Florida Times-Union columnist Nate Monroe.“The forum is the next step in preparing our communities for the upcoming election,” says Terri Cope Walton, WJXT’s general manager. “With families and businesses facing major challenges and opportunities, the stakes are too great to miss this chance for dialogue with potential Jacksonville mayors.”
