KCTV, Meredith’s CBS affiliate in Kansas City, is doubling down on sports coverage with a daily, half-hour sports show called The Locker Room Show. The show is hosted by Dani Welniak and produced by Nikki Rushing. “I don’t feel an immense amount of pressure, like: oh, two women are in charge. I think it adds to the product versus adding pressure,” Rushing says.
A devastating wildfire burning in California has claimed 42 lives, making it the deadliest in the state’s history. KCRA and KQCA held a disaster relief drive that raised more than $1,250,000 to support people impacted by the wildfires. “The devastation from the Butte County wildfire is just staggering,” said Lori Waldon, KCRA’s news director. “Most likely it will get worse.”
Detroit’s MyNetworkTV affiliate, WMYD, and Bounce Detroit, explore the impact of the African American vote in Michigan. “How African American voters respond to the diverse field of candidates and crucial issues seeking their attention may be the bellwether for what Michigan and America will look like over the next decade,” said Chuck Stokes, WXYZ and WMYD editorial and community affairs director.
The NBC and MyNetworkTV affiliates in Sacramento joined the Red Cross in a day-long telethon.
“Our telethon provided an important way for our viewers to help in a direct and meaningful way,” said KCRA’s news director.
“When people call in and say that they wish they could give more, it really touches our hearts,” said a rep from the Red Cross.
